Would you please describe the High School Diploma Program that you offer?
The High School Diploma Program that Southeastern High School offers is the Fast Track Program which is graduation by examination. All students receive one, comprehensive 24-credit multiple-choice test. The test is simple to follow, easy to read, and has a user-friendly format. Your test will include English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and General Studies. This test will be the only test you will be required to complete and pass. Best of all, you will have access to a teacher via a toll-free phone number who will coach you when you need academic support. Along with your 24-credit test, you will receive a Study Guide for academic support. You will be allowed to use the Study Guide while you are taking the test. The comprehensive test is an open-book exam. After successfully passing each subject section of the test with a score of at least 60%, and obtaining a minimum GPA of 2.0, you will have earned the 24 credits required to graduate. Upon completing all academic and tuition requirements, you will be awarded your high school diploma – NOT a GED. The Fast Track Program has been designed specifically for students who need an opportunity to earn their high school diploma to qualify for a job that requires proof of earning a high school diploma or need an opportunity to earn their high school diploma for self-improvement and/or personal satisfaction. Please be advised that the Fast Track Program is not a college-prep program that prepares students for college admissions and is not a high school completion program that prepares students for educational enlistment requirements of the U.S. Military. You may use the Southeastern High School Diploma to apply for a job that requires proof of earning a high school diploma. However, the decision to recognize or accept the Southeastern High School Diploma or any other high school diploma that you have earned is always the prerogative of the employer in the United States. Is Southeastern High School an accredited high school?
Yes. Southeastern High School is accredited by the National Association for the Legal Support of Alternative Schools (NALSAS). The NALSAS is a nationwide accrediting agency which has been responsible since 1982 for the accreditation of K-12 alternative educational programs. NALSAS applies only one standard to its accredited members: consumer protection. The NALSAS accreditation assures the public at large that at least one member not involved in the control, operation, or proceeds of the applicant program has reviewed and confirmed the program’s claims and conditions regarding its location, existence and operations. Note: The U.S. Department of Education does not have the authority to accredit private or public elementary or secondary schools, and the Department does not recognize accrediting bodies for the accreditation of private or public elementary and secondary schools. However, the U.S. Department of Education does recognize accrediting bodies for the accreditation of institutions of higher (postsecondary) education. If an accrediting body which is recognized by the Department for higher education also accredits elementary and secondary schools, the Department's recognition applies only to the agency's accreditation of postsecondary institutions. Accreditation does not provide automatic acceptance by an institution of credit earned at another institution, nor does it give assurance of acceptance of graduates by employers. Acceptance of credit or graduates is always the prerogative of the receiving institution or employer. For these reasons, besides ascertaining the accredited status of a school or program, students should take additional measures to determine, prior to enrollment, whether their educational goals will be met through attendance at a particular institution. Those measures should include inquiries to institutions to which transfer might be desired or to prospective employers.
What is the purpose or mission of Southeastern High School?
Our mission is to provide an alternative choice to the traditional attendance-based model of education. We believe in students having the freedom to choose a high school completion program that meets their individual needs and the freedom to study at home and at their own pace.
What is the educational philosophy of Southeastern High School?
Southeastern High School was established by seasoned educators, who maintain that the traditional classroom-based model for secondary education is unsuitable for a significant, alienated and disenfranchised portion of the population. It is the view of this institution that students benefit from an educational program that allows the student to individualize his/her learning experience by navigating through coursework at his/her own pace. We believe in providing a supportive academic environment for a diverse population of learners who need to be agile thinkers, effective problem-solvers, and lifelong learners in an increasingly competitive world.
